Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival

The festival began in 1979 and made a profit of $3.16. Very successful, since it takes most festival years to even break even! Yarmouth Clam Festival -“Always the third Friday in July”

Cumberland County Fair- "Always in September"

September 21 through September 27, 2014. The very first Cumberland Fair was held for two days on October 10th and 11th of 1868 in the center of town in back of what is now Greely Junior High School. The land was provided by Capt. Enos Blanchard. His house is now Dr. Louis Hanson's office on the corner of Tuttle Road and Main Street. The ladies of the town had an opportunity to show all who attended what marvelous cooks they were, and what fine needlework their fling fingers could provide. Farmers brought their biggest and best-tasting vegetables. Those men with working steers could show off the strength and coordination of their animals at the ox pulling contest. Local horsemen raced their finest steeds on Main Street from the junction of Tuttle Road and Blanchard Road to Greely Road. And so it began. Website

Fryeburg Fair

Sept 28-Oct 5, 2014. It was a chilly day in March of 1851 when a few local farmers and merchants got together and decided to show off their produce, cattle and wares to the community. Since those humble beginnings, Fryeburg Fair has grown to become Maine's largest agricultural fair complete with six days of harness racing, a farm museum second to none, the world's largest steer and oxen show and a reputation known throughout North America.

The 8-day Blue Ribbon Classic has flourished since that first fair when William Walker of Lovell won $3 for the best acre of corn and William Spring of Brownfield earned $1 for the best seed wheat. Today, the early October fair boasts Maine's largest agricultural event held on 185 acres in the Saco River Valley in the foothills of the White Mountains. Fryeburg Fair attracts more than 300,000 people annually. Website

Jones Landing- Reggae Sundays, Peaks Island ME

Since its launch in 1992, the Reggae Sunday series on Peaks Island has become one of Portland's biggest summer attractions, prompting hundreds of revelers to pile onto boats and ferries for an afternoon of dancing and drinking. The 12:15 PM Sunday Casco Bay ferry to Peaks is packed when the weather is nice, so either take the 11:15 (or the 1:15), or be sure you’re in line at Gate 5 plenty early. Website

The Salvation Army Old Orchard Beach Pavilion

The Pavilion was built in 1998 in the location where, since 1885, The Salvation Army Camp Meetings have been conducted. Dedicated in July 1998 by President and Mrs. George Bush, it is surrounded by stately white pine trees and nestled in the middle of what is now known as the “old camp meeting grounds neighborhood”.

There’s not a bad seat in the house with our state-of-the-art sound system, covered pavilion, stadium seating, and unobstructed views. Enjoy a concert accented by cool ocean breezes and the scent of Maine pine trees.

The Pavilion has hosted numerous artists and speakers since 1998, including Sandi Patty, Ron Kenoly, Mark Schultz, Legacy 5, Rachael Lampa and Mark Lowry.
